Un libro imprescindibile per chiunque voglia finalmente sapere come sia potuta riuscire l’operazione di occultamento più grande del secolo: quella orchestrata dai negazionisti dell’emergenza climatica.

La prima grande bugia che si può raccontare sull’emergenza climatica è che non è colpa dell’essere umano. La seconda è che tutti gli esseri umani ne sono responsabili in egual misura. Se oggi non esiste una politica climatica globale efficace, se le temperature continuano ad aumentare, se gli ecosistemi sono al collasso, la ragione va cercata nella macchina organizzata del negazionismo climatico: ingenti finanziamenti, tecniche di propaganda ed efficaci manovre di ingegneria comunicativa che hanno lo scopo di far sembrare il cambiamento climatico solo una teoria, un’opinione, non una realtà scientificamente fondata. Questo libro racconta quello che non viene mai detto a proposito dell’emergenza climatica: quando gli scienziati hanno cominciato a dare l’allarme, le industrie di combustibili fossili non potevano permettere che i loro affari fossero compromessi. Erano gli anni ’70 e, da allora, le lobby negazioniste – non solo le industrie fossili, ma politici, think tank, gruppi di pressione, piattaforme mediatiche, gruppi di facciata e falsi esperti – hanno messo in atto la più grande operazione di insabbiamento della storia più recente.Il negazionismo non si limita a rimuovere la realtà. Ne costruisce una alternativa al cui centro c’è un elemento su tutti: l’inganno. La disinformazione diventa la nuova realtà. E il negazionismo diventa vitale per la sopravvivenza di quella stessa realtà. Il negazionismo è strategico, è attivo, è pubblico.

Der Klimawandel ist in den letzten Jahren auch deutlich erfahrbarer geworden, sichtbarer, eine „Naturkatastrophe“ folgt der anderen. Klimawissenschaftler weltweit warnen regelmäßig und sind sich einig (98% !!!), dass wir zu einer globalen Energiewirtschaft ohne fossile Brennstoffe kommen müssen, damit wir den Klimawandel zumindest abmildern und das Ökosystem des Planeten Erde (zu dem ja auch wir Menschen gehören) erhalten können.

Climate Obstruction in Italy: From Outright Denial to Widespread Climate Delay

Understanding climate obstruction is foundational to advancing effective action on the issue. Starting in the late 1980s, a broad range of actors, including corporations and trade associations, acting in coordination with conservative think tanks, foundations, and public relations firms, mounted a long-term effort to oppose action to mitigate carbon emissions responsible for climate change. Many portrayals of this effort focus on the United States; Climate Obstruction across Europe for the first time documents the development and nature of these activities across the Continent and the United Kingdom. Leading teams of experts examine case studies of eleven nations and the European Union (EU). Each team documents the historic development of climate obstruction in a country, the principal organizations involved in these efforts, the strategies and tactics utilized, and the nature of the arguments made to slow or stop climate action. Noting significant differences between countries, the book concludes with ten lessons on climate obstruction across Europe which emerge from the studies. National economies and histories are foundational in shaping obstruction and shaping the actors, lobbies, and the places for think tanks to operate. The public relations industry pushes climate delay into the public and policymaking arenas, providing fodder for a media already inclined to support the (fossil fuel-dependent) status quo. Finally, environmentalists, pro-climate policymakers, and the EU are being blamed for damaging national and regional economies and are labelled as radicals, ‘kooks’, and ‘the enemy’. Future research is suggested to better understand the development of intentional barriers to action on climate change in Europe.
